About Gregory Burgess

Third-Generation Californian. Public Health Expert. Your Neighbor.

I was born in San Francisco and raised in the natural beauty of Marin County—the same communities I'm asking to represent in Congress. From Point Reyes to the Canal District, these aren't just places on a map to me. They're home.

A Life of Service & Adventure

My path to this campaign has been anything but conventional. In my twenties, I sailed around the world—an experience that taught me resilience, adaptability, and a deep appreciation for how interconnected our world truly is. As I sailed across the Pacific, I was struck by the vastness of the world and how humanity's struggles mirrored the unpredictability of the sea. That journey shaped not only my worldview but also my creative vision.

After returning from sea, I spent a year as a volunteer English teacher in Indonesia, where I worked with students from diverse backgrounds. This experience deepened my appreciation for language as a bridge between cultures and a tool for empowerment—a belief that stayed with me when I returned home.

Every child, regardless of their challenges, has the potential to succeed—and that same philosophy drives my approach to policy.

Public Health & Innovation

My work at the CDC deepened my understanding of the systems that protect our communities—and where those systems fall short. Later, as a Clinical Engineer, I helped develop technology that saves lives in operating rooms across the country. It's proof that when we combine healthcare expertise with technological innovation, we can solve real problems.

Why I'm Running

I've spent my life solving problems—in classrooms, in public health crises, in operating rooms. When COVID-19 shut down the world, I didn't sit idle. I started researching and writing legislation—real bills addressing the issues I'd seen firsthand throughout my career: failing rural infrastructure, insurance companies abandoning wildfire-prone communities, workers treated as expenses rather than assets, and families priced out of homeownership.

Now I'm bringing that work to Congress. But I'm not asking you to trust campaign promises. I'm showing you my work: 37 drafted bills covering everything from wildfire insurance to housing justice to protecting Point Reyes ranchers—legislation I began crafting during the pandemic and have refined ever since.

I still sail the San Francisco Bay. I still call Marin County home. And I believe our district deserves a representative who understands both our challenges and our potential.
